MiMo Antennas in USB Modems

Is there actually 2 antennas in those USB modems that carriers provide for cellular services? I know most modems have ports to accommodate 2 high gain antennas (main and diversity) and that usually both antennas have to be set apart to a specific distance so how is it possible to have a main and a diversity antenna in a stick that's 4cm wide by 8cm long?

Just having a second antenna gives more options than a single antenna you can use either antenna or as a pair fed with various phase differences between them..

OK thanks for the reply. But does the stick itself has 2 little antennas inside of it?

I'm trying to compare the signal between a Sierra 330u and a Huawei 397 no external antennas and I think the Sierra has a more robust signal. Sierra has 2 ports for MiMo the Huawei only 1 port, that I understand but I'm wondering if both have the same type of internal antenna(s)
