Milwaukee M18 battery adapter for Dewalt XR tools

That's great to hear, the remaining question I have is what the drill will do as the pack gets to a low voltage. The battery might go into overhdischarge protection before that, though.
Hi Ya,

Haven't got a chance to check/find it yet.

However, I have made an adapter for Makita LXT series earlier.
The tool will stop automatically and then we check the charge by pressing the button on the battery, the last light on the battery will be blinking. (which indicates time for a recharge.)

Hope you don't mind but will show what I did for a similar situation.

I had a new never used Craftsman impact driver, part of a set bought years ago. The NiCad batteries were dead in all of my Craftsman stuff. I have a Worx string trimmer and extra batteries. The charger that came with the trimmer was a real slow one the smallest amps they sell. So I took the charger and used it to adapt to the Craftsman battery pack. I used the charger because I bought a faster charger for the trimmer and it was made to fit the Worx battery. I cut the height of the original Craftsman pack down to make the whole thing more compact.

And works like a charm :)

I have attached the images of connector that connects to the Dewalt XR tools.

I have soldered the resistors as you mentioned in the sketch. It works as if I'm using Dewalt battery :)

Wondering;
1. Why the resistors are not getting hot/burn out!!! being exposed to so high amps.

2. Also shorting the terminals using resistors, not damaging/tripping the fuse in the M18 battery!!!

Pls correct me.
that looks really neat, wondering, where did you get the metal to use as the female pins to connect from battery to the tool? I am trying to make the same but have just been using scrap metal and bending it to shape.

Hi,

I have a dud battery lying around and used it to cut out the battery connector part from the PCB and glued it to the upper outer case.
That way it is much easier and safely functional under load/vibration without any loose contacts.

Just want to say, this thread is a life saver. I have been scouring the internet for an M18 to DeWalt adapter that I could 3D print for work. All of my tools at work are currently M18, with the exception of a DeWalt drill. My DeWalt batteries have all been dying slowly and are all small capacity. I hate having to recharge them constantly if I have a project that requires a lot of drilling. The drill still works great, so I figured I would go this route before just buying an M18 one.
What I didn't realize is that almost no one ever does M18 to DeWalt 20V, which was baffling to me. But anyway...

JoeCK, am I correct in that once you build the circuit board with resistors, you only have to run battery (+) and battery (-) to the Milwaukee tool?
