I am new to the Mentor Graphics VX2.2 Schematic tool. Can someone help me with the difference between the Databook and Central Library? I am using the components from the databook only. But what is the central library? I haven't used it yet.

And what is the iCDB server? I donot understand it. Please help. Thanks

"On the PADS Designer (schematic) Start Page - under New Project - PADS Professional - when you create a new project from this dialog next to the path to the Central Library are two buttons, the right-most button enables you to create a new central library."

"The Expedition flow uses a database (the iCDB) to store the schematic (logical) and constraint data and to manage concurrent acces to the data for multiple users, it is also used used by Expedition PCB to extract the logical definition of the design. To enable this concurrent access there are a number of process that run on the systems accessing the data. One process is the iCDBNetServer that manages access to the iCDB and another is the iCDBNetLauncher that manages client requests for access to the iCDBNetServer. When a project is opened it starts the iCDBNetServer process and all clients access the database using this process (you will see an iCDBNetServer.exe running, this is sometimes refered to as the iCDB Server)."

How is the central library different from databook?

Central library is a database.
"DxDataBook is a database browser application that uses the Open Database Connectivity
(ODBC) and Internet/Intranet standards to provide access to component information stored in
an ODBC-compliant database."

Thank you. So to put it in simple terms, the components present in the databook are present in some server which can be accessed by many users (provided they have access to the server) and the components present in the central library are those components which are present in the local library of the Engineer PC. Am I right?
