It will depend very much on what kind of device you will have in parallel with the inductor. I do think that is the best answer to your problem.

That's it in a nutshell.

If there is a capacitor or other reactive component in parallel, it can throw your readings way off.

O.K. Answer #4, "It Depends."
In this case there are multiple components, not just a single component in parallel.
It would be best to remove the inductor from the circuit. I suppose I could manage that without destroying the circuit.
