Making a Electric car noise

so I was wondering the other day, while watching videos of people being run over by silent electric cars would it be possible to add your own car noise to an electric car?

Now I don’t mean just a random car noise, but one that actually fits in with how you are driving. So stamp on the accelerator pedal and you get a noise of your chosen car screams off from a standstill, or pull away slowly and it does that noise.
Let off the accelerator quickly and it makes the pop pop back fire noise.

You could chose what car you wanted, so someone would have to record that car doing various things, and then run them through a computer could link them together to fit in with what you are doing in your car?

Do you think it would be possible to retro fit something like this into an electric car? I imagine you would have to hack the accelerator pedal to get its position and the speedemotor to get to get it’s position to tell you how fast the car was going.

I thought it might make a interesting discussion, any ideas how to accomplish it?

It can be done, but why bother? Pedestrians should always have the right of way and drivers should be watching for them.
That pretty much covers it. While it certainly can be done there is no need to do it. Actually thinking more about it most of today's cars and even SUVs are really very quiet. Unless really accelerating or decelerating using a heavy foot on the brakes you really don't hear much.

I strongly disagree. I hate being "stalked" by silent electric cars when I am riding my bicycle.

Any noise would be better than none -- the car does not have to sound like a garbage truck.

Try a microphone attached to the transmission and an amplifier with a speaker by the front. It may not work for pedestrians playing with their MP3/phones on earphones.

Exactly. Loud horns, flashing light and signs don't work when people are distracted. Here (Oregon and most places) pedestrians don't always have the right of way in front of trains or cars.
The primary rule that pedestrians must follow in North Carolina (or anywhere) is to pay attention and take reasonable care for their own safety. This means that, no matter where they are, pedestrians must not intentionally put themselves in harm’s way, whether they have the right of way or not.

Did you know that Formula One racing cars produced much less noise when they got rid of the huge V8 engines and replaced them with smaller V6 engines and hybrid electric motors? Fans complained so now the cars use speakers to make more noise like before.

I think the very noisy cars in my city have two engines. One to propel the car and the other to make as much noise as it can.
I asked a cop who was catching speeding cars with his radar gun if he ever ticketed a noisy car and he said most go so fast that he can't catch them, so he follows their trail of beer cans then they disappear in a cloud of Mary Wanna smoke.

Well you are certainly entitled to disagree. I would think riding a bicycle that riders would be very conscious of traffic all around them and ride defensively. I don't ride a bicycle but I do ride a motorcycle and have rode for close to 50 years. I have learned to try and anticipate what traffic "might" do because like a bicycle when accidents happen the driver of the car or truck always cries "I never saw the bike" be it a bicycle or a motorcycle. While being in the right is nice it really matters not if you are dead. Most cars today really are quiet be they electric or fossil fuel and while noise is nice I would never want to depend on it with my butt on the bike. Additionally just like in the posted video I have seen some pretty stupid pedestrians. Wearing a hoodie making for impaired vision and with ear buds listening to tunes as the walk out in front of traffic. So how much noise should a motor vehicle make? Do we have a db level in mind?

Silent electric cars "stalk" you? Like they sneak up on you waiting for an opportunity to pounce on you?

The lemmings step out in front of the noisy ones...…………...

Tesla already does this. Discovered it while forming a company to do this about three years ago.

A food store here has a cooler with milk in it. Open the door and you hear a cow making a MOO sound.
The door with the eggs makes a CLUCK CLUCK sound like a chicken.
Soon there will be a door with Mary Wanna behind it. It will say, "I have the munchies, what were we talking about?".
