you mean a Light Dependant Resistor? like a cadmium sulphide photo cell? they drop their resistance when light hits them. maximum resistance in dark. you would have to use it in a voltage devider circuit, with a resistor to supply.

 

Here's a little 2 battery LED circuit that turns on in evening or when room is dark:

The batteries last for over a month with 2 LED's in my wall clock too. The 75 ohm resistor is optional for longer battery life.
