Noticed a possible problem where the photo resistor may turn the latch off.
See added resistor modification (R3) below to eliminate that.

I have seen the circuit in Post # 22 used to illustrate the operation of a SCR but never used by its self so I lashed it up on a bread board.
There is difficulty in resetting if there is more than 330 ohms between Q1 base & common. As a try, added a .01 uF from Q1 base & common. Now reset is solid all the way up to 100 k. Vcc = 4.5 V, load 220 ohms & LED.
