Can you factor such a Boolean expression?
You don't have 8 variables, you have four -- they are: A, B, C, and D.Hello again, still working this problem (thanks for helping me with the B answer) but I still need to understand this. Like I said above, without "blackboard" learning, reading is tougher for me and you (WBahn) and shteii01 are my blackboards of sorts. This REALLY helps me! I hope the next file/pic is not too big. In this next one as the example of the book it gives 8 variables and this is where I thought I needed only 4 squares and now I see that I do really only need 8 squares. Pic to follow.
Hi, yeah I realized that after I wrote it that I need 4 instead of 8.You don't have 8 variables, you have four -- they are: A, B, C, and D.
You have 8 input combinations for which the system output is HI -- that is NOT 8 variables!
For four variables you need sixteen squares. For this particular function, eight of them are filled with a 1 and the rest are filled with a 0.
Before you post a file, look at the size of it. Most pictures taken with phones and such today are huge. So open it in Paint (or similar software) and reduce the size. Scaling it to about 300 to 400 pixels wide usually does pretty good. You should try to get your images below 100 kB, though sometimes this isn't really possible.
I have NO idea where you came up with that K-map. You have four minterms in your starting expression, so there will be four squares that have a 1. You also completely messed up the mapping between the variables and their values. Below is the corrected K-map. Normally I wouldn't just give the solution, but you already know what the correct answer is, I think this might be the more effective way of getting the idea across, and it's obvious that this isn't a homework assignment that you are having to work and turn in.Okay, I think I'm picking this up now. Now, with more practice I'll get sharper at it. Thank VERY MUCH WBahn and shteii01!!!!
Pic to follow, hope not too big a file.
Corey

Thank you! I need it.Good luck, Corey.
