I have a step down transformer which gives 24VAC output.I want to view the output waveform and measure the various readings in the oscilloscope. But I have a confusion how to connect the probe to the transformer output. My oscilloscope ratings are (input 35Vpp).Should i connect the probe as in the figure

Yes, as in your second image. Also a 24 VAC transformer implies 24 volts RMS which is about 34 volts pk and 68 volts pk to pk so you want to use a 10:1 attenuation probe.

Transformer ratings are usually stated for the condition of fully loaded. With no load on the secondary other than the scope, don't be surprised if the output voltage is higher than 24 V.

If all you want to do is see the wave form then grab a toroid from an old board and connect it to your scope. Then power the transformer (don't short the secondaries) and just bring the toroid close to the transformer. Don't go rushing at the transformer, move slowly and observe the changes in the voltage induced on the toroid. You can get these toroids with coils already wound on them. Likely you'll find them in some unused wall warts or other power supplies. If you don't have one you can make an electro magnet just like you used to make in elementary school using a nail and some insulated wire. Wrap the wire around the nail several turns and then connect the ends of the turns to your scope. As you approach the electro magnetism on the transformer you'll begin to see a wave form. It won't be accurate for any kind of measurement, but you'll be able to see the wave form just like you're asking.
