That's why I prefer to read reviews on 3rd party sites. I never had a review disappear from Amazon or google.

On that note, I am very surprised by the reviews on harborfreight.com. There are a lot of bad reviews on there, which I would have expected to disappear, but never did.
I have went to that third party review route now as well given that most bad reviews tended to disappear as well. Hell, I've even hit a few bad past employers pretty hard with fair unbiased but very open reviews of the idiotic things they did through third party reviews of them as well! :D

Here's one for proof. https://www.indeed.com/cmp/Savage/reviews?fcountry=US&floc=Minot,+ND

Completely wiped out their million plus dollar service contract with BNSF railroad and the local company branch in Minot with that event!

Local manager and the regional manager above him who were the sources of the majority of the problems got canned and everyone who walked out got a surprising and rather apologetically friendly phone call questioning what went on ending with being asked if we would come back with other people in charge to which I know I and at least one other said yes. However by then BNSF had already canceled the contract and kicked them off the property. :(

I understand your point. I feel the same way when people talk down about millennials, since I am in that group. But millenials got that reputation for a reason. There is a stigma about certain trades and it wasn't spontaneously generated. Auto Mechanic is one, along with towing companies, funeral homes, etc.

There's only one mechanic I take my car to when I don't feel like fixing it myself. It's a friend of mine. He went to UTI and got a degree as an auto mechanic. He went to work in a dealership for a couple years and then got out of the industry because he didn't like the way they treat customers. He told me several stories about it; basically they got paid however many hours a computer told them a certain job should take, no matter if it actually took twice as long. Customer got billed for actual time, but he only got paid per the computer. And the only way to make up the lost time was by selling the customer superfluous maintenance that isn't needed (which the dealership actually encouraged the techs to do).

He now works as a compressor mechanic in a chemical plant and does odd mechanical jobs for friends and family. He is trying to grow his fledgling side business by referrals, of which I give him many.

There are good honest mechanics out there, but hard to find. Sorry for the rap they get, but that's just how it goes.
Yep same here but not a millennial. One generation up from that that came with our own set of associated generational baggage back in the day. :p

I have worked in and with a number of service industries that have higher than average bad reputations associated with them, for what I know and saw first hand while in them they showed they were very justifiably earned at that, but I always made a point to make it clear I had every intent to prove I was not one of those who gave said industry its bad rep. :(

74 model here which puts me in 'Generation X' one full generation up form millennials. 1985 is solidly 'generation Y' a full decade or half generation up too early to qualify as any degree of millennial. ;)

If I had kids when most of my generation had them they would be the full millennial generation and you would just be that slightly older guy they know and hang out with rather like may age 50's buddies are for me now. :p

I am a 60's model, I believe they call them boomers eh! Yes I am Canadian as well and from a whole lot of years of experience in the business from top to bottom including a shop owner, I have seen most everything in our industry and nothing surprises me now. I teach millennials in the trade now and although they come with their own set of problems, they are no different then when we were young. Different way of looking at life but still facing the same problems. Hats off to tcmtech if you are trying to uphold the good nature of our trade but these problems have been going on for years. They are just more publicised now because of all the social media we have plus the growing number of people in the trades. Add to that the fact that nobody want to train them anymore and now we have a very watered down product.
There is a song by Mike and the Mechanics (seems fitting) called the Living Years and in it, he says that every generation, blames the one before. This has been going on for many generations and there are good and bad in everything in this world. We just need to find the good, dismiss the bad and make changes where we can. Eden, you are young and enterprising like your generation. Keep plugging away and asking questions. Life will be good for you. tmctech, keep on keeping on. Canada out!

Anyone who has any work ethic or morals will always find problems with whatever industry they are in. Heck anyone who has any experience in any field will find the same crooks from every industry online boasting about how much money they make off their "idiot customers" too as if being a bold faced crook is a bragging point in life for them and those of us who are not are to be lied about and shamed out of business for it.

Personally I love social media for that ability for anyone to bring whos honest and who's a crooked dealer out to where everyone can see what they are really about.

If anything I would love to see a internet service war between services rating websites with each pushing to bring everyone everywhere the most accurate and up to date reviews of every business everywhere. :D

Where I am at we have some super small time mom and pop type contractor services people that I wouldn't mind seeing get far more business while seeing a few outright scumbag ran larger businesses get screwed over right out of business by their own customer bases over the truth of just what low life lying cheating crooks they are and how they self justify their actions for screwing their customers. ;)
