Can anyone tell me what type of capacitor this is.
I have an old Strobe light, It was a kit that I purchased 50 years ago from Radio Shack
Thanks
Rick

220 F at 200 volts

If that's Orange-orange-green-white-orange, it's 3.3uF 400V(for type K). Or if it's Red-Red-green-white-red, its 2.2uf 250V(250V for type J, 300V for type K).

So the top of the cap is red =2
The second colour is green =5
The third is white _000,000,000
the forth is red = 200
So it 200 v but not sure what to do with the 000,000,000
is the value 250,000,000 uf

Thanks but doing a search yes brings up images of the one I have but none tell me what type it is. Ive read that for Strobe lights its best to use a film capacitor (the link I added to post #10 Ive also read that I could use a Mylar capacitor (Polyester).
Id like to purchase this item on Digikey (I have something else to order as well)

It's polyester, no need to purchase that expensive polypropylene you mentioned earlier.

As others have said, it is a common polyester of 2.2µF/250V/10%

Just for fun, check the cards attached that my late dad and I used to decode these capacitors.

Im looking for a couple other polyester capacitors. Digikey does not have that type of capacitor listed. Can I use a Film cap to replace a polyester cap.

Polyester (aka mylar) caps are one of several different types of film caps.

If you're replacing the tropical fishy caps anyway, taking one apart can be a valuable learning experience.

250000000 pf most likely ( 250 uF) that seems too much for a xenon flash tube 2uF would be good for a strobe up to a several hundred pps.
