I accidentally hooked a 36 volt DC battery charger to a brand new 24 Volt DC battery (Which is actually two 12 volt batteries in series)? It charged about 7 hours before I noticed what I had done. Also, these are sealed batteries for an electric bicycle. Did I do permanent damage to the batteries?

Thank you,

Joe

hi cd,
Welcome to AAC.
Did you measure the actual charging voltage while using the 36Vdc charger.?
Are they lead acid or SLA battery types.?

A 12V sla battery needs 13.8V for a fully charged state, so 24V needs 27.6V (28v maximum) you're 8V over the limit, did you measure the Voltages when charging.?

Tell us more about the battery and the charger.
Maybe the internal resistance of the charger was enough to not damage the battery.
