In the circuit, i need to find Req but I'm unsure of the significance of red marked segments. any suggestions.

 

What's the full question?

Are the red lines to denote two conditions, with the intersected links either open or closed.

 

sorry i was not very clear. the only question proposed was find the equivalent resistance. I am not sure how to handle the 3 red marked segments to determine the final resistance of the circuit. the 1 segment with a resistor is not connected to any other segment so it should not be a valid path, i assume it is considered like a short and is disregarded. the 2 lower segments are basically just wired paths and the wires are assumed 0 resistance. but Im not sure why they are there unless to confuse me... if thats the case.. then it worked.
