If you are REALLY interested in knowing how to work with the parallel port google "parallel port complete pdf". You may be able to find an ebook.

It was written by J. Axelson. I bought it once. Everything regarding the parallel port is covered

Oops I didn't know that... I bought it many years ago.

 

I bought her USB book a few years back too. She does excellent work.

 

Most of Axelson's books are available through local libraries.

 

There are freeware "C++ parallel port drivers for Windows XP" which a google search will find. Then you just put the drivers in your code.
