you provided only two photos... where did you get it? what about manufacturer, product code, material type, etc.

there should be assembly instructions on the vendor website. if the red insulation is soft (rubber or PUR etc.), probably just press fit, if it is rigid then not sure... i am assuming that slot should bot be overfilled with solder as same slot may be used for retention (did you inspect profile deeper into red insulated part?

I would slip the correct gauge and diameter insulated wire through the sleeve, solder it and draw the plug or socket back into the sleeve.

Which photo is seen? I posted two; one looking down the rigid/hard plastic casing, and then the plugs. I bought these as a kit off of ebay, and there is no instructions unfortunately. Its unbranded.

That's what I was going to do, but before I soldered everything I wanted to test fit. And it seems that the tension is so strong I would have to almost hammer the thing in the casing

Everything I have laying around are pre molded. Years ago I had some which used a set screw. You might try using a hair drier and see if the sleeves get more flexible.

Don't you slide the rubber over the wire, then solder the wire to the metal plug, then slide the cover down over the soldered joint? Kind of like using shrink tube but not shrinking?
