the best design for a hot wire foam cutter I’ve run across is based on a brushed motor ESC (RC motor power supply) using a 555 based servo tester to generate PWM and powered with a 9v battery. I will have to see if I can find a link. This particular one was for detailed tracing using thin plywood templates for cutting out model airplane parts. Just remember you don’t want the wire to get red hot which will cause messy cuts.
