Actually the recent turmoil in Hong Kong and knowing its history, I am surprised it took this long for the push back to occur.
And how calm the UK/China cede process was in 1997 after 156 yrs under the British Flag!
Just because the Chinese promised to preserve Hong Kong’s capitalist system, I think the general feeling was that also included democracy!.

I definitely didn't. Nor did a few friends that had been smuggled into Hong Kong from mainland China by their parents. I am just surprised it took this long.
