A family member has a 1991 Honda Fourtrax 350. It was running fine when he parked it last September. When he tried to fire it up this summer it refused to start and a bit of investigating found there was no spark at the spark plug. I checked the pulse coil and ignition coil and the power and grounds to the ignition module and I could see no reason that it would not run so I told him he needs a new ignition module. Being its over 30 years old the OEM is not available but there are a few aftermarket option, some of questionable quality.
while searching the internet for a new module he found on an ATV forum where someone claimed that putting the ignition module in the oven for a few minutes at 400 degrees would make it work again. So he put it in a preheated oven at 400 degrees for 7 minutes then let it cool and then reinstalled it and hit the start button and it fired right up and ran as it always did. Two days later it is still starting and running.
All I can think of is that there must have been moisture in the module and the heat dried it up. The module is a plastic housing filled with epoxy or something similar after the internal parts are installed.
