hi gir,
Welcome to AAC.
Which type of faults is it designed to locate.?

hello sir, its an optical tester, detecting fault like some bent or cut on a fiber optic cable, the problem is it doesn’t stay on, max is 10 minutes. that’s why i’m wondering if there’s something on the board that causes it.

I will venture a guess that it uses a timeout or automatic shutoff to conserve battery power. This is common on battery powered test devices, even a few of my DMMs have that feature. What causes it? I would say it is by design and less a full schematic it could be using any number of ways to shutoff. So yes, it is something on the board but as to what? That is about impossible to guess without a circuit schematic. That would be my guess and only a guess. :)

I guess you’re right regarding the timeout. I also got this same kind of tester but a different design, like a pen-type look but that thing stays on. only thing is it only goes as far as 2.5miles when we’re testing outside fiber
