Update to the project, in case anyone finds this thread with the same problem or is interested in the code.
I added a transistor to have a pin go low when the PIR is on, and some extra code so the the light continues to stay on. Before it shut down in 3 mins, then went back on when triggered. Now it stays on until it is no longer triggered (+3 mins)

I'm a big fan of these 'dancing candles' and have used them in a couple of projects now.
