Help with this High voltage high frequency power supply circuit

I have this HV HF power supply that stopped working. After troubleshooting various components, I could find at least one part (diode D6 shown with an arrow) which is damaged and is an open circuit. Can someone highlight whether this single diode can make the power supply nonfunctional and what is its role in the circuit. I have not tested the IC IR2153, bother than that almost all parts seem to be fine. I am assuming that this diode D6 (which is a HV diode with 3KV reverse peak voltage) is the weakest point and fails every time there is an abrupt impedance developed in the load at the output of the flyback transformer. Is there any way to avoid failure of this diode? Picture1.jpgIs there any other component that may be vulnerable?

Thank you.
