Help with RC turbine RPM sensor

I have a older turbine ECU that uses an IR sensor for RPM, which basically is a hole drilled through the compressor nut and light shines through it giving 2 pulses per rev. I have a turbine that I want to use the ECU on which has a proximity sensor that counts the compressor vanes as it passes next to it, which is 6 pulses per rev. I would like to try and build or buy, if one is available, a circuit that would reduce the pulses from 6 to 2 and whatever voltage I need to change so it will work with my ECU. Thank you in advance for any help.

That's a nice shiny Nut on the end of that Shaft ...........
Just paint 4-flanks on that Nut Flat-Black, leaving 2 opposing Flanks polished,
then get an LED/Photo-Diode Proximity-Detector and
aim it through a drilled-hole in the Intake-Bell, perpendicular to the Nut.

Be sure to get a Detector that is designed for the distance involved, ( 3-inches maybe ???? ).

You might even be able to "re-purpose" your original Photo-Diode and LED,
only using a reflective surface, ( the Nut ), to bounce the Light off of.

It can be done by several methods. Below is one, it is divide by 3 binary counter. Every 3rd CLK pulses AND output goes high and resets the counter and next cycle starts.

Hello Greg ,

Followed your post about the proximity sensor. Do you know what typenumber this sensor is , two wire sensor / 12V and max frequency?

I believe the picture you showing is an AMT motor correct ?
