That is a bad blow.
It is likely some kind of triac.
What is the power rating of the dimmer?

I mentioned the Z0607, as it has the gate on the middle pin.

The Z0607 will be OK for lamps upto 60 Watts.
For higher power lamps a more powerfull triac must be used.

I would love to save the lamp.

I'm a fan of touch to dim controllers. I took two of them and wired them into a box with two 120 VAC outlets. I then took regular night stand lamps and plugged them in. For the touch sense wires I ran two wires, one up each side of the bed. You simply reach around the bedpost and touch the wire and the lamp comes on low. Touch it a second time and it's on medium. A third touch turns it on high and a fourth touch turns it off. This way you don't have to buy special "Touch Lamps", you can plug any regular lamp into it. But it doesn't control lamps with CFL or LED bulbs. You must have at least one incandescent lamp. Otherwise the difference between high, medium and low is almost un-discernible. This is also limited to 60 watts total (each lamp). And they're cheap. Easy to find at your local big box store. Got mine at HD (hate that store).
