Happy Thanksgiving Day

As we give thanks -- here in America -- for the knowledge and practice of, and recognition of the bounty produced by, capitalism, I wish all a happy Thanksgiving Day.

Eat well, and continue to prosper.
Thanks, mine was wonderful - good food and good people - one of my favorite combinations.

I heard something that reminded me of your comment....seriously. It was an essay by a 17 year old. Part of it is...

I am struck by the absurdity of this holiday. Thanksgiving seems to be pretended -a farce. Little more than an outdated tradition no one has yet found the time to discard.

If man gave up this day, he would be forced to admit that he cannot be thankful because he is not happy and he is not happy because he is never satisfied.

Mary Moran (17), 1973.

FWIW and with all due respect to stoicism, pessimism, and many other isms....I think she is wrong, but I think it as a memorable and poignant illustration of the cognitive luxury of youth.

If she is around, I wonder what she would say about her winning essay. Looked her up but could find nothing - here is the TV segment which includes her reading if you are interested.

In this urban society I have found a simple Thanksgiving for a rooster that blew in

with the last hurricane. He crows loud every morning, not good. So day by day he

gets my thanks, counting the days. One of many thanks that makes my life work.

Is the holiday weekend coming to a close already? I had off Thursday and Friday and of course the weekend. It just flew by. Back to work again tomorrow.:mad::mad:

For the first time in my life I've been eating turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy and jam for 3 days in a row now and for that I'm thankful.:)

Do they celebrate Thanksgiving in Iceland the same day as in the US? Or is this just an excuse to eat turkey. ;)
