So I've always loved historical guns and certain models. Most until now have been completely out of reach. Heres one dream gun I'd love to own with a luger, M14,M21, M1,etc...Even some of the Axis and foreign guns. Check it out. A real 1943 Colt 1911 Army issue pistol. This is an amazing find. Last one I saw this nice was a true SS sniper rifle with swastica's proofed into it, also I'm looking for anything out of the Russian TULA armory.

I disagree.Theres lots of money to be made flipping guns, espscially AK's M4's, AR-15's, etc....In fact the older I get the more I think of getting my gunsmithing license. Then you can buy those crap guns, fix em and sell em for $400-$1000.

 

I personally have been quite fond of the Savage Model 99's. Very innovative for it's time. The first lever action that had a rotary magazine which allowed for the use of pointed bullets. Previous to this type of magazine you had to use rounded bullets or else risk setting off all the others in the typical tube magazine under the barrel. I have one of these in a Savage .300 caliber, but am looking for a Savage 250-3000 and a Savage 22Hi-Power. The Hi-Power is rare to find in good condition though, and when you do find one the seller wants an arm and a leg for it.

 

If you like powerful .22's check out the .17 HMR's. .22's hitting 1500fps downhill with wind. The HMR's are hitting 2500+FPS. Plus if you check youtube their way way way more powerful then a .22. Just imagine if they made a .22 like a real rifle bullet.

 

Finally got one of my favorite guns a few years ago, Model 97 Winchester in 12Ga.
And from the same guy a M1 Garand.

Doesn't seem better. Anything you gotta hand loads not gonna be as good as something factory loaded unless your amazing at it. May be you are but I'm not. I'd rather just throw downa couple bux on a box of 500 rounds. I will say 3100fps is pretty damn fast if it comes in a proper rifled shell and power point. My only drawback from the .22 from the .17 is penetration.The .17 kills the .22 in that arena.

I have read a few good reviews about the S&W and more bad than good about the Ruger. I haven't really paid much attention to the Colt, though generally anything by Colt is going to be a good, reliable, well made gun. Something to consider though about the pocket sized guns is that if you can handle the extra power in a small frame like those, look at a 9mm. the truly pocket size 9mm are very comparable in weight and size as the .380ACP.

Yah I'm sure you know more then me in many of these area's. Only issue I have with the .22 HP round is cost. It said none of the big mnf make it and I plan on getting the .17 or .22 as a daily shooter. So I plan on running 10,000 rounds a year thru it. So its really the most accurate vs cheap ammo I can find. Power and speed aren't everything. you gotta get the gun and ammo that fit your needs. Obviously its not like a normal .22 so I may be off base. As far as rifled proper power point ammo, I'm sure its not the right terminology but I mean like a handgun round vs a 30-06 round. Most of the .22's are shaped like handgun rounds. The HMR is shaped like a proper rifle round.

I like a good 9 but I lean towards the 380. For a pocket pistol its perfect. The 9 just feels like too much in a gun that only comes down to your ring finger. Thanks for the research on the pistols. I was leaning heavily towards the SW or possibly that colt or a colt snub nose pocket pistol.

 

Well yeah, for a daily shooter definitely go with a 17 HMR or 22 LR. The 22 Hi-Power is more of an investment rifle, something to keep around for the value of it rather than shooting. As you have stated it would be rather expensive to shoot on a daily basis. Even though reloading would decrease the cost in shooting something like the 22 Hi-Power, it would still be more expensive than a 17 HMR.

BTW, I do reload my own ammunition, only if I can't buy it cheaper. 223 Remmington/5.56mm is too cheap for me to justify the reloading of it, though I do have a formula of powder/bullet/primer that is more accurate in my rifle than anything I have found commercially available.

Thats really cool, I'd like to do it eventually but haven't had the need lately. Almost started when we were shooting a lot of Lee Enfields. I think those were Britishi 303's and always sucked to find and the old powder in it would leave horrible residue. So we priced it out and were gonna go ahead and start ordering brass and stuff but the project fizzled.
