I usually recycle them by installing Linux. I’ve never investigated what Google Chrome can do. Would you recommend it?

I've not used it.

I'm usually a install Linux guy too but my kid used a Chromebook during the COVID school lock-out so it seems to work if all you need is a limited sandbox of applications.
