Hello All, please bear with me on this long post.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've been a user of Google Maps / Google Earth for more than a decade. Has the ease of use gone down with newer versions?

Let me show you a major constraint between Version 9.36.2 and Version > 9.38.1

I want to get directions from A to B.

I touch the appropriate button upload_2018-12-19_8-57-50.png

Then

And
upload_2018-12-19_9-19-3.png

Upto here, its same for both Versions of the Google Map, no issues.

When I "Choose on map", I get

Old Version . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . New Version

See the difference - Landmarks, Signs, Saved Places,... all missing in the Later Versions of Google Maps.

I have tested and confirmed that this is Not due to Android Version, Instrument, Service Provider.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Has any of you noticed this? Is there a way out/around this constraint?

Thank you all.

Are those two example from different devices or the same device with different versions? I have experienced a case where Google stopped showing detail on a map after I had looked at it “too many” times. It seems that Google will keep track of usage and if it decides that it’s excessive then not show as much detail. In my case this was evidenced by the map not allowing to zoom in as much as it used to. This was on my desktop PC on my cable modem. I found out how to change my IP address and then map went back to zooming as before. I had read online that not using Google maps for a while will also fix the problem but there was no information about how long this will take.

Those updates were done quite a while ago. And they do suck. Big changes in navigation too.

Much LESS user friendly.

I believe the change was to compile more usage data.....to tempt and convince future business clients.

Just a guess.

I don't use Google Maps other than for quick looks at things, but Earth on Android is a complete abomination in comparison with the desktop version.

I was horribly disappointed to discover this. I'd never owned a tablet, but I bought one with a GPS receiver in it, thinking it would be good with Earth for cycling. I could use some of the available tools or write my own for saving the image cache for off-line use. I have a Garmin mapping GPS receiver, but it is fairly old now, has as small screen and is slow and it is really frustrating at times. Yes, horribly disappointed - not to mention seeing the screen of the tablet outdoors is a challenge.

May be there are better Maps for Navigation per se, but Google has the advantage of including Taxi bookings too.
