About 4 years ago I made an artificial free jamming jazz band which was fully automated. You didn't even have to push play. It had a drums, bass, piano and an organ. They were all controlled by modules that were then controlled with other modules and so on and so forth;) Not a single pattern or anything in the sequencer and the only thing that was human about it is that I decided the limits of the randomness, for an example the probability of a certain event taking place.

Took me about an hour to make and tweak to sound pleasant. The fact that you can't never expect what comes next makes it sound like you are hearing the jam for the first time.

Every time.

Oh and the Idea came to me after attending my first automation class...

Edit: To clarify for those who are not familiar with musical trackers. A pattern is the place where you place your notes and the sequencer is where you place your patterns.

Randomness and creativity seem to be two different things.
There is. Note that I didn't call it artificial intelligence. The program is dumb as a rock and it doesn't learn anything. More like a fully automated limited/controlled randomness to make it sound pleasant. As far as I know that was the first time that someone had gone this far with total automation in the software that I was using. People had done so with a single instrument or two but not with all and everything in their song.

Hope that clears it up a bit since it's difficult to explain to the fullest to people that haven't worked with that particular software...

My mobile phone is not intelligent at times it vibrates and rings 50 times because the USB socket is failty.
Tells me to connect the charger. Again again and again.

Its not creative either...
You need to buy a new USB Yoke...
or...you need a better phone...

Yahoo news is pretty creepy. It connects and connects and connects to load metrics, statistics, cookies, scripts and advertising.
Repeat for each article you are reading.
Zero intelligence here.

I havent yet seen AI that understands what it is doing, evaluates if some action is appropiate.
So to say, make sure its own survival.

A lot of makebelieve though.

Survival is one of the factors of evolution.

A small ant does care about its survival, it has about 200000 neurons, and it creates its own internal image of the surrounding world, processes it in a way that makes sense, communicates, lives with other ants in a social group.

When you introduce something new into an antfarm, the ants will react to it. When they never saw before the object. So they apply their intelligence.

Where as for software it needs to be preprogrammed.

And they explore outside the antfarm even, if they can.

Skinner is just stupid. You could say, weather triggers the instinct of humans to go inside buildings. Its just not true, its uncomfortable, they could go outside.
