I am tackling an issue with this company's product.
It is old but quite good.
Like to know if any one is using anything similar.

Controller picture is below

Original Issue was not closing. So the guys have been closing it by force like 2 guys hanging on the shutter door. But it can be opened by the controller. Just refuse to come down.
So I localized the fault to a broken close limit switch in side the motor assembly.

Now this thing is free falling. Closing does work too.
When stopped it closes faster than it opens. Or when fully open it closes by itself. While the controller is in stop mode.
Not a controller issue as it falls with controller disconnected.

I can stop the fall by shorting the motor wires after disconnecting it from the controller.
All it needs is around 1 second duration of short circuit, and after that it remains ( does not fall ).
I guess the motor is breaking when shorted and prevent further rotating.

I did not remove anything else from the mechanism and I cannot find anything with in the controller that can be used for breaking the motor.

Normally, there will not be an excessive amount of force required to open or close a garage door. This is due to a pre-loaded spring that is attached to the cable winding mechanism. Could that spring have slipped, so that it no longer carries the door weight?

My garage door spring once popped. It sounded like a bomb went off in the garage. Thankfully no one was nearby. People don't realize how much energy is loaded into those springs!

My door has a manual pull on it that disengages it from the drive chain. So you can operate the door even with the power off. But if the spring is not helping, the door will be very heavy.

Problem is I did not see any spring or anything that can be used to prevent free movements.
Just an engage/disengage lever.
At disengage position the motor has no control over the door. I can open and close it easily.
The motor controls the door only in engaged position.
