Reality is setting in ...“Customers and market conditions will set the pace of the transformation,” Mercedes said in its report. “The company plans to be in a position to cater to different customer needs, whether it’s an all-electric drivetrain or an electrified combustion engine, until well into the 2030s.”
But the average car buyer probably is not able to afford the price points of Rivian's current slate of vehicles — the company's R1T electric pickup truck starts at nearly $70,000, while its R1S SUV starts at almost $75,000. The company, which is not yet profitable, reported a net loss of $1.52 billion for the three-month period that ended Dec. 31, compared with $1.72 billion during the same period a year earlier. Much rides on the company's plan to produce its more affordable R2, which will debut in March, but won't start mass production until 2026.
Despite years of growth in EV sales, mass-market customers remain wary of EV battery life, range and the availability of reliable charging stations. That's why hybrid vehicle sales have grown alongside those of EVs, Caldwell said.

Kitty Hawk: Rammed a Soviet Victor I submarine in the Sea of Japan. Brought sub propeller back to Subic in our bow. Crew won the Battle E.

You're right, the Midway was the 7th fleet carrier thenCV63 the Chickenhawk errr Kitty Hawk. During 75 through 79 wasn't she docked at North Island? I remember the Connie, Ranger and I want to say Kitty Hawk. I visited every carrier's cal lab once a year in the PAC.The Midway was home ported in Yokosuka, Japan at the time.

NAVATA 32nd street was fun. I didn't spend much time at North Island other than at the amphibious communications school and some time at the Nuclear Weapons training (weapons code security and stuff ...) compound inside the base that looked liked a prison camp.I got over to NAVATA 32nd street for the commissary. My last years active duty were spent at North Island where I completed my degree and started working for NAESU (Naval Aviation Engineering Support Unit and after about a year more at NAS NORIS I was moved to the LANT side of the house and the USS Eisenhower for a Med and IO cruise. We shared time on GONZO Station.
After the IO it was 3 years in Naples Italy NAESU. Eventually I moved from NAVAIR to NAVSEA and into Navy Nuclear and my last 25 years was Naval Reactors here in Cleveland with trips to KAPL (Knolls Atomic Power Laboratories), Bechtel Bettis Atomic Power Labs in Pittsburgh and finally Oak Ridge Labs in Tenn. Looking back now over 10 years retired it was really a great ride and I really enjoyed working with the Navy. Absolutely an E Ticket ride.
