COWLITZ COUNTY, Wash. (KPTV) - Two people were injured in a crash involving an impaired driver on Wednesday evening in Cowlitz County.

The crash happened at about 10:12 p.m. on southbound Interstate 5 near milepost 52. Washington State Patrol said an investigation revealed 2019 Kia Forte struck a 2021 Toyota Corolla that was in front of it. The Kia then continued off into the tree line on the right where it hit a deer and a tree.

The driver and passenger in the Kia were taken to St. John Medical Center with unknown injuries. The driver and passenger in the Toyota were not injured. WSP did not say if the deer survived.

WSP said drugs or alcohol were involved and charges are pending against the driver of the Kia. The investigation is ongoing.

The deer was OK.

Guy I used to work with was riding his motorcycle at night up in Wisconsin when a deer landed on his gas tank knocking him off the bike. We had one here a number of years ago that went through the windshield of the car and gored the poor woman driving and killed her.

Woman arrested in Colorado hit by train after officers park squad car on train tracks

PLATTEVILLE, Colo. — The chief of the Platteville Police Department told 9NEWS Sunday that an officer has been placed on administrative leave after, investigators say, he put a suspect in his squad car parked on train tracks and a train hit the squad car, seriously injuring the suspect.

That's going to cost the city some coin. This investigation went off the rails.

“Those who are in your custody, you’ve detained them or they’re in the back of your patrol car, you have a duty of care towards that subject,” said Ed Obayashi, a California sheriff deputy who is an expert on police practices. “In other words, since you have assumed control, physical control, over them and their movements, you are by definition responsible to protect them in any situation.”

 

This is just one of those things where everything that had to go wrong did go wrong. Like the perfect storm. It takes a collection of incredible stupid people to make it happen.

Video shows unruly passenger punch attendant during LAX-bound flight

A 30-second video posted on social media showed the flight attendant appearing to talk to the passenger before he turned his back. The suspect then walks toward the attendant and punches him before walking away.

The incident happened on American Airlines Flight 377. That flight was destined to land at Los Angeles International Airport after taking off from Cabo San Lucas.

Footage captured the stunned reaction from other passengers on the plane.

A passenger on the plane told Eyewitness News that the flight attendant didn't appear to be seriously injured and no one else on the flight was hurt. The witness, named Kevin, added that the suspect was restrained by other passengers and his hands were zip tied.

Before the assault, Kevin said the suspect began to whisper and said "There are 10 killers on the plane.

Years ago, especially late 70s I was flying about 50,000 air miles a year and in all my flight miles never saw the whacked out nonsense people do today on flights. Maybe there are just more whacked out people flying these days?

Maybe there are ... something happened in our western culture that made it lose its attachment to social reality. The result has been a boorish generation that has become rude, selfish and inconsiderate in the name of a misunderstood sense of honesty and "saying things as it is".

My guess is that if you were still flying 50,000 air miles a year you would be able to still say the same thing -- that the vast majority of the public still has not actually witnessed such behavior.

Today we are bombarded with it because everyone has a camera and it gets filmed and posted and goes viral. Plus, with 24/7 news on umpteen different channels, every channel is always looking for anything flashy to throw at their viewer. In the 70s when it happened, there was no video of it and saying, "An unruly passenger hit a steward and was arrested," was nowhere near the threshold to warrant mentioning on the limited about of national news time available to the three major networks.

Having said that, I do think that the incident rate has gone up, just not as much as the increased coverage makes it seem.
