It has recently started to appear in the 'New Posts' section. I will keep it under observation. Thanx a million :)
Well if you go to New Posts and the thread is listed there. If you then click on the thread and then go back to the New Posts listing the thread will not be listed because you have seen the thread and there are technically no new posts.

It is quite a bit different from how we used to do it, so feedback is welcome.

In my opinion, the earlier way was much better. Thanx anyways :)

I thought so too, but when I think about it, we can always access todays post with the corresponding button and it sort of resembles the way New posts used to work. This way even if you log out, you know which threads you have actually missed.

Does the re-edited posts too appear in the 'New Posts' section in bold letters indicating unread posts to the other forum members?
Thanx. :)

Most new post are technical, most members log on for tech info,
so members who post off topic should not be surprised. We have had
our time in the sunlight. Now some new members may never get excited sbout
some off topic subject. There sense of humor may have brought them down.
No worry if it stikes Dave or moderators fancy they know what to do,they have to come this to lowly place to watch the flock. They has a sense humor, you can depend on that. If you find a key chain, turn in to lost and off topic.
Need a Cave, post in off topic.Notice all international posters down here on this posting, trying to advance
International communication.

Hello,

I have seen that under Community you can go to the members list.
In the old version members with 0 posts where shown.
In the new version the 0 post members are NOT shown.
(I sometimes like to look at the new members signature (for the intrests of them or where they come from)).
Can the 0 posters be shown again in the members list.
This also gives an idea on the members activity.

Well I find the new system really unfriendly and unhelpful.

Say I log on and go to the new posts list.

I see a thread that might interest me.

I click on this post to find out more.
In order to reply to the question by referring to some other part of the forum I leave the thread and go collect my references.
Back to new posts and boom this thread has disappeared.

Its a real pain to find it again because I was stoopid enuf not to note which forum it was in. Silly me.

Then again, say I look at a new thread, but don't want to participate at the time.
Later something occurs to me or I see a useful reference somewhere.

I have the same problem finding the post again what was it called?, I didn't note it down, cause I didn't think I wanted it, and the titles I can find offer little clue as to content.

Or again I post into a thread and return to new posts. In the (good) old days I could immediately see my post as a marker and know that all posts above it occurred whilst I was cogitating on my response. And more importantly I have already checked all posts below.

Please go back to the old system.

Studiot,

There is a straightforward way to see the thread that you opened and then closed and then lost track of. Go to the "QUICK LINKS" selection on the tool bar at the top of the page and click on "Today's Posts". This will show all posts in their chronological order whether you have ever opened them or not. Next time you encounter a "lost" thread of interest give this a try.

Thanks.

I now formally consign the 'new posts button' to the dustbin of history, along with the starting handle and the company which invented it.

bertus,

The members list has always only shown members with 1 post or more. The reasoning was that this removes a fixed link on the forums for members who haven't posted to the community; the caveat of this was it prevents potential profile spammers from using their public profile for pushing a site, etc. Recent events may change our view of this stance, so we will review it and make a decision, although thus far these have be resolved in other ways. Thanks.

studiot,

Does the Today's Posts and New Posts links in the nav-bar go some way to giving a fair compromise?

Pleased to hear. :)

Although I must mention to Rob that when not logged in there are now two "Today's Posts" links in the nav-bar.

Dave
I spotted that double entry prior to logging in also. I just thought I was seeing double.

Jrap has fixed the problem with double "Today's Posts" links on the forum tool bar when you're not logged in.
