hi guys, i have a problem for you.

An optical fibre has core refractive index n1=1.5 and cladding refractive index of n2=1.45. Estimate the maximum signaling rate attainable if the optical fibre has a length of 10Km.

Can you solve it for me? In my opinion you cant solve it because you dont know the diameter of the core of the fibre, what do you think?

If you assume it is a single-mode fiber, there are equations that you can use to estimate "d" as thingmaker3 has. The way I would do it would be to find an approximate V number.
Ok but can you calculate the signaling rate without knowing the diameter of the core?
