Older people are dying on the job at a higher rate than workers overall, even as the rate of workplace fatalities decreases, according to an Associated Press analysis of federal statistics.

Don't know about familiarity and contempt, maybe just "here is another way getting old sucks" :)

From a news report:

The workplace fatality rate for all workers — and for those 55 and older — decreased by 22 percent between 2006 and 2015. But the rate of fatal accidents among older workers during that time period was 50 percent to 65 percent higher than for all workers.

The AP analysis is based on: Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Census for Fatal Occupational Injuries and an American Community Service Survey (although I don't know which one).

Hey, you don't move as fast, as swift, as strong and so on and so forth....I just tell myself...yeah but with age one has better problem-solving and pattern-recognition skills....I tell myself lots of things :)

55 population (and older) try to text and do something else at the same time like everyone else - they are just not as good at it as everyone else.

Yes, I would think it has to do with reflexes and physical fitness.

When I was 40, I played volleyball with a bunch of 20-somethings. They could all react way faster than me. In a life threatening situation, that could certainly make a difference.

Was it age or distraction?
That is,
Were your reflexes slow at volleyball because you were older, or, because they were younger than you?

But I have seen newbie's learning a new procedure and they are instructed in the correct safe way to operate a machine/procedure etc, and seem to take it to heart, the older guy's have been doing it so long they tend to think they know the machine like the back of their hand and take short cuts, liberties etc.

I decided a long time ago that I'm still Jeopardy smart, but I'm not Jeopardy fast.:(
Sometimes I have to wait until the next day for an answer to arrive from my brain:confused: and I quit climbing ladders more than 4 steps high because I can not save myself when I step back to admire my work...and I'm still on the ladder!!!

Getting old sucks!
Which suggests the idea that industrial suicide is an option.

Just the article photo heading today's announcement.

Those shoes are Roached, not sure I would wear them during an emergency of a Zombie Apocalypse. I might trip and fall to be eaten alive.

But, I had Sears deliver my new Stove and Refrigerator, before they left we talked briefly since they arrived early (Shocker) I hadn't emptied the refrigerator so I emptied some boxes in another room and began clearing and filling the boxes off the shelfs. I was finished in less than 10 minutes. He was shocked when I told him I'm told old for this stuff, he said how old are you, I said Sixty this year. He replied, I can't believe it you don't look or act older than 50.

I'll take that. (Stroke, Stroke):p

I must be getting old, it took me 4 days to repair & paint my roof, before it was only 1 day but no hail damage.
Could not have done it with out my Harbor
Freight wench, but she only had to lift half buckets. 90 is just a number.

90? The temperature or your age or both?
