My Epson scanner recently gave up the ghost and as these are really fine scanner's with a lot of features, I looked at repair.
I did a search and found there is at least one common problem with them, and that is the belt tensioner is mounted under two rather wimpy slides, these eventually break under the stress and the scanner goes in to fault.
Some of the posts on the repair drill through the steel tension bracket, through the bottom of the case and use a small bolt tightened to secure.
The problem with this is, the tensioner is no longer able to slide to maintain tension.
The better solution is to easily remove the tensioner and drill and file or machine a slot in the bracket and use a 3mm screw as above, but use a self locking nut in order to allow the bracket to retain the ability to slide and provide tension.
Now its back in business.
