The new LED box has an inductive power loop under the battery box, notice how the (lightweight) box never moves as he pushes the switches about. There must be a microcontroller underneath running through a sequence. As for the LEDs he doesn't seem concerned about polarity. Perhaps they're fed AC?

The older video the guy on the right is in on it and puts the bulbs in in the sequence the preprogrammed microcontroller needs.
