We all have heard of taking a mirror and breaking it down into individually controlled segments.....to remove twinkle from starlite. These segments are mechanically tilted. This filters the direction of the starlite.

Instead of that way....consider this. A flat array of photo detectors. Which can independently filter the direction of lite.......without physically moving. This direction filter is all electronic.

It took me a minute.....but this is really powerful. It will change our scanning techniques. When we start a scan.....instead of just reading one pixel.........we point the entire array at that distant point.....and get an array of information. And then re-aim array to next distant point. Imagine the resolution with a large array. And imagine how much finer we can electronically control angle, than we can mechanically. I would also think.....that being able to steer each pixel into a ray of distant reflected lite.........it would greatly increase sensitivity.

It's a good thing the price of memory is coming down.
