    Some distributors, like Mouser, provide simulation software complete with their inventory in the library. Mouser uses Multisim Blue which seems pretty easy for me.

    I, as well as many on these forums, use the free LTspice from Linear Technology.

    I looked at LTSpice when I first started looking at this stuff, but the library was mostly just LT's products. Mouser's Multisim Blue comes (eventually I imagine) with all stuff Mouser carries. Instead of calling up some general NPN transistor model I can get specifically a 2N3904 or 2N4401. Bare Multisim Blue is pretty scarce on a library but you add Mouser's inventory to it and you have something.

    You can download library-loads of free third-party component models for LTspice from the Yahoo LTspice User Group and elsewhere.
