Electric go-kart (with regenerative braking)

I am making an electric go-kart which must include regenerative braking for a project. I am using a 650W trike motor (https://www.goldenmotor.bike/product/650-watt-trike-motor-2/?currency=CAD) from goldenmotor and a Magic controller (https://www.goldenmotor.bike/product/magic-controller-v2-25-amp-2/) from goldenmotor as well. I am unsure if the regenerative braking function will work or not, from my research I could not conclude an answer. Since I was unsure, I searched up a different controller, a brushless hub motor controller with regenerative and reverse function (https://www.alibaba.com/product-det...spm=a2700.7724857.normalList.2.785c3a86ML8ZWH) and was wondering if the alibaba controller would work better or not. The controller pretty much matches the motor and should have regenerative braking, however id rather not order these parts without knowing for sure.

The only way to know is to buy it and try it.

Unless someone here has played with this exact model?
This stuff from Chinese manufacturers can be a bit overhyped in the specifications - buyer beware.

Did you read what the controller description says? From your controller page;
"True regenerative braking (only effective when you squeeze the hand brake)."
"Compatable with BLT650"

My immediate thought is this is not worth the bother and added weight and expense .... racing go carts will be braking rapidly , I don't think the batteries will accept that sort of high current even if the motor (now generator) and the circuitry could handle it ... super capacitors are usually needed to absorb such intense bursts (over 10Kw) but they are wasteful of energy and expensive.

You are limited by the 650W motor /generator, which will only allow energy recovery at 650W max ... normal street driving with slow breaking regenerative breaking may be a good idea , although I don't think many vehicles have it .... with rapid breaking it can't be sensible
