thought i wud bother everyone with this easy one.

consider:
u have 9 eggs and a balance.
one egg happens to be lighter than the rest.
the task is to find the lighter one after weighing only twice .

after this you can have the eggs for breakfast

by now the eggs wud have rotten so lets dispose them off.
the answer was correctly given by salgat and i m confident many might have already got the answers but didn't care to post (this vegetarian culture is spreading fast )
so here is the answer,
we group the eggs in such a way that each contains a total of 3 eggs.
hence we have three groups.
the process of elimination is important while dealing with such tasks.
now we take any 2 groups and weigh them on the balance.
if the balance shows no deflection it implies all six eggs are of equal masses.
hence the lighter egg might be in three which were left out.
if however the balance tilts than lighter egg is in the group that tilts upwards
..duh..
now out of three probable convicts weigh only two of them as we did above.
again if no deflection the one left out was the lighter egg.
else if a deflection is seen ...ur guess is as good as mine
