The police give also tickets for going too slow on interstates for a reason, it's unsafe due to speed variation and normal driver behavior with a road hog.

Running into the rear of a car is almost always the faualt of the car with the front-end damage. Also, hitting a stationary or very slow object is almost always the last vehicle to enter the area.

Weird bins like driving slowly on an interstate without lights at night will give the ticket to the stopped vehicle in that case. But in broad daylight, the car doing the hitting will be at fault.

All three cars behind me were tailgating and didn't expect me to stop. The two immediately behind stopped in time. The third didn't -- pushing the other two cars into me.

The third got the ticket. He complained to the cop: "But the light was green! Why did that idiot in the front stop???!!!"

Cop replied: "He doesn't need a reason. A green light is not permission to drive into the car in front of you."

And this brings up another subject: Here in Florida, we are allowed to make right turns on red, but only after stopping first at the stop line (before the crosswalk). Most roll into the crosswalk before stopping -- if they stop at all. I am surprised more pedestrians don't get nailed.

Jaywalking is not illegal (there are no statutes in Oregon that deem jaywalking illegal) in Oregon and if some idiot signals he wants to cross by stepping off the curb mid-block into the street to cross you need to stop. As a pedestrian you don’t usually have the right of way unless you are in a crosswalk but I can grantee you will be in court if you hit some fool.

 

Back when i was going to PA for a visit, cars were going at least 80 on i78 west and it was nuts. I cant see going that fast for any reason.

When I have a clear view for MILES, I have no problems pushing it up to a faster speed. I-40 in west Texas, parts of NM and parts of AZ certainly can handle 90 MPH. Same way with the road that turns north towards Vegas from Kingman AZ. Naturally, the speed drops for me as we enter the last few miles to Hoover Dam. It's fast enough with the downgrade as it is.

Out here fatigue is the biggest killer, not speed.

Originally $6 per trip, now at the private builder/operator filed bankruptcy, the price is $19/trip.
Unfortunately, they are experiencing some soil shifting issues and the roadway is developing some unplanned speed bumps.

 

Here in North Texas, the private NTTA is building more toll roads. You don't need a toll tag to drive on them, they just record you and send you a bill. Of course if you don't have a toll tag you will pay twice what the toll tag rate is.

The SA-Austin road just wasn't popular enough to attract enough drivers. Let them start handing out tickets for speeding on I-35 and that toll will look pretty damn cheap.

I was in Western Oklahoma when a politico was out there. We wanted the speed increased and he gave the typical line about the regulatory agency. The sheriff told the deputy to follow them to the county line and ensure they do the speed limit. Nothing like making a good point.

From my house to Amarillo texas was 2.27 hours at 55. When it increased to 65, it went to 1.9 hours. Those are the official calculated figures. Travelling S&R I saved 30 minutes.

It all depends. Time is a funny thing. Some times one arrive home early and enjoys the time or uses it for good purposes. Sometimes one arrives home early and a mother-in-law is there and wishes of driving slower pop into one's head.

One night I was on a major highway that connects the west to Pittsburgh (we call it the Parkway West). It was late at night. There was someone in the left lane moving like a snail. I mean really slow. Maybe 4-5 MPH. I passed in the right lane. Just as I passed I glanced out the left window and SLAM ! A car traveling in the left lane rear ended the slow moving car on the left. They hit the slow mover at full speed maybe 70 MPH or more for that time of night.

I wanted to step to help but realized I might be a part of the next accident so I kept moving. I didn't see anything about the accident the next day. It couldn't have been good. Very good chance that occupants of both cars are dead.

I like rural southern Texas. The drivers are so polite or at least used to be. If you come upon a slower moving vehicle they will pull over on the shoulder to allow you to pass. I have never seen anything like that before.

Hey, it's Texas. The slow driver knows there is a high probability that the faster driver is packing heat. Of course their going to be nice.

Yeah, I've driven through southern Texas all my life, and most drivers are not only polite, but thoughtful in many other details... if only I could say the same about this 4-million people, chaotic city in which I live...

They do that in Western Oklahoma as well as Western Texas. Probably a habit because of them driving the harvesters. Same with turning off the road, they tend to use the shoulder as a turning lane.
