Drill size for 5/16" tap?

What can I say? My machine shop supplier can still sell me the 3 of a (US made) set.

Sure they are still available, but guarantee they sell more spiral point taps than sets. But never in my experience are they used in the real world. Time is money and the time to go through the series of taps is not needed since they started making spiral point taps in the 1960's or earlier. The only other tap needed is a bottom tap when needed. But everyone makes them by grinding the end off of a spiral tap, as needed. At least in the industry around my area.

Just got back with the MDF. I did not want it to be too thin anyway.


Double sided carpet tape is mentioned above. It does not do well for milling and is really a pain to deal with.

How deep are you milling and what size? The thing I was talking about, surface grinding has way more force than using an engraving bit for PCB work, but way less than regular milling.
