Take it a piece at a time.

Microchip has quite a few Application Notes for various projects, and there are already plenty of applications out there on the Web.

Find the individual pieces, understand each piece, and carefully put them together.

If the problem is too complex, you need to break it down into smaller and smaller pieces, until you understand each piece.
