DC Series-Parallel Circuit combination

Hi Friends,

I have a power wheelchair run by two 12v batteries wired in parallel fashion until wires meet up at a power module. A lead wire comes off the module to each of the two 24v motor wheels.

I recently bought a 24v urine bag drainer.

My problem is the two batteries as said are wired in parallel.

Can I also wire the same batteries in series to get 24v needed by drainer?

Thanks, Leo

How does the power module get the 24 volts for the motors? Are the batteries wired so both positive terminals are physically connected and the same for the negative terminals, so only two wires run to the motor controller?

This could be a problem, as they can be in series or in parallel, but never in both states.
