They missed several bets. Having a display that is open to the public can lead to probable embarrassment. Hi Tech sun glasses are very likely to be popular, instead of a translucent large screen display. 3D with such an arrangement is also going to be routine. This would go well with virtual keyboards, though I don't have any idea how this would work. Super thin gloves maybe?

I noticed the guy writing on a paper tablet on his desk. By then the electronic paper may have made its commercial debut. Something you can use a stylus on. Big glowing (or even small glowing) displays are fairly energy consumptive, a simple picture on paper will run on watch batteries for months or years, much like calculators do now. It may even have a solar panel like calculators, and have all the features of a browser, book reader, and tablet.

The paper display offers a not so fun possibility for advertisers too, small bill boards will likely also proliferate.

Glowing displays may actually loose in popularity as other methods come out, and only be used when needed (like at night). Electroluminescent layers in back of the paper may accomplish the same thing at a fraction of the energy.
