Connecting multiple load cells in parallel

Good day, I am building a weigh scale system which comprises of a 500g load cell connected to an ADC.

Would connecting multiple load cells (e.g.two 250g or four 125g cells) in parallel result in more accurate readings?

If so, how can this be done and how would the new ADC values be interpreted?

Hi Eric,

Yes they will be of the same type and specifications. Is there any way to connect them without using a junction box?

As shown above it is possible to parallel them up as long as they are identical and close tolerance as well as mechanically accurately distributed. Generally you can't connect cheap load cells this way and get reasonable results. Anyway that will give you a wider range but won't give more sensitivity or accuracy. If you need those you need a different load cell.

Multiple load cells, mounted at the corners of a 'force plate' can be used with separate interfaces to share the load - thus 4 * 50kg cells can weigh 200kg, multiplexed through a single ADC and combined by a simple force X distance formula. This is how it's done, for example, in the Nintendo Wii balance board, which gives surprisingly good results from the cheap load cells you can get on eBay.

What weighing Base platform design.?
What is the maximum weight you want to weigh.?
What is your LC excitation voltage.?
