Common Cathode/Anode vs single channel schottky

What are the advantages of using a common cathode/anode schottky diode vs a single channel diode?
Could you use a common cathode schottky in place of a single channel schottky with one of the anode connections left as "no connect"?

I think you would be better off joining both anodes together.

They are made that way because there a lot of switched-mode supply circuits that require two schottky diodes with their cathodes tied together - forward converters, for instance.
