Because we Brits are like that. When someone says "don't eat red meat" we feast on steak everyday, when someone says "don't drink to excess" we go out every night. There is a cultural thing where we don't like being told what and what not to do, and we are naturally suspicious of "expert advice". Most people in the UK saw the Bird-Flu thing as more fear-mongering from a nanny-government. But we are getting seriously off-topic with this one!

I think the answer is 9 days.

A chicken and half, lays an egg an half, in a day and half. So a chicken lays an egg in a day and half (one egg per chick). So one chicken needs 9 days to lay 5 good eggs and one rotten egg, because the first egg waited too long.
