Charging a battery with a higher voltage. Raspberry pi inside of EOL chromebook

Hi, new to the forum. I have an interesting project that I would appreciate some advice on. Im building a raspberry pi inside of a chromebook (chromebooks go EOL in 3 years so I figured I would replace the motherboard with a raspberry pi zero) I think I can handle the peripherals, (monitor, keyboard and touch pad) but Im out of my realm when it comes to charging circuits.
So my question is: The Ac adapter goes from 110AC to 19.5v DC but the battery inside is 11.4v. When I take out the motherboard (and charging circuit presumably) I'm left with nothing but a charging port delivering 19.5DC from the AC adapter. Can I just take a 19.5v to 11.4v converter to charge the battery?

I understand once I get the battery charging I will have to convert again to power the PI at 5v. Let me know what you guys think. Or if this project is a waste of time.
