Don,t have (a) key,tap metal piece with ball point pen tip.
Do you see a little spot of metal down in A..
I just went on u-tube a lot of cap banks to view.

OOpsie - wen I spoke about a SWR or Standing Wave Ratio meter, I actually meant "Field Strength Meter...

MEASURING FIELD STRENGTH
Your meter can measure the low levels of radio frequency (RF) generated by a radio transmitter. You can use these measurements to map the transmitting direction and coverage pattern of your antenna, or to compare your radio and antenna's efficiency before and after an adjustment. You do not need to connect the meter to the antenna or the radio to measure field strength.

It takes two people to measure field strength. For an accurate measurement, you will need to map the site around your antenna. Then, while someone presses the radio's transmit key, you will need to walk around the site around your antenna with the meter, marking the readings you see.

Make sure there is at least 25 feet of open space in all directions around your antenna.
Measuring antenna Field Strength with the meter, requires no power source of it's own. And it literally is not discreet and does not care what frequency the transmission is that's being measured. Police cars have pegged mine from over a block away.

I was taking that a step further, building a larger, more sensitive model to passively capture RF and instead of putting it to a measuring device, put the power to use..

Maybe that makes a little more sense... The truth is out there! :)

As for theft of service - if they don't want someone using it, they should keep it out of my environmental spaces... What comes into my home, is mine the way I see it... Same with my attic.. If someone sends me an unsolicited "gift" in the mail as a "free gift" and tries to bill me for it, I get to keep it gratis, or so says the law! :D

Maybe I am the prince of over-simplification!

The amount of energy to move a little needle probably doesn't really compare with continuously powering a useful circuit, like bill said, these power levels are tiny, they have millivolt meters, just being measurable does not make it substantial

What he said, being able to measure RF with a circuit designed for the job doesn't really qualify as high power. Microwatts, or if you have real power, a milliwatt.

If you are right next to a power station you can get power, but remember the theft of service? I wasn't joking, it is the law. If you use a resource created by someone else, diminishing their service in the process, then you will run into it.

There have been cases where power lines run over something like a barn, and the farmer inductively taps into the power flux to power a light bulb. They have been busted under this law, complete with fines and a cease and desist order.

I was actually goiung to refrence that story, but yea, i wouldnt mess with this stuff. Its somewhat of a grey area of the law but the power companies always seem to win.

Although i heard another story of a guy who had a high voltage power line run right behind his house and was messing with all his electronics, power company said that it wasnt because of their line and that there was no way to prove that it was.
so the guy sets up a nice big tree in his front yard with an induction coil in it and covers it in 100W bulbs, couple days later thery agree to sheild his house if he takes down the tree :)

Well, I don't live near a power station or power lines. I live in Az - where everything is spread out and power companies buy up any and all land within a mile of their high voltage transmission lines.

No, I was talking specifically about RF - all those things in the invisible spectrum that are all around in the air. Should I actually capture and use any or even all of those (theoretically) it would not really diminish service, and since the spectrum is so filled to the brim with frequencies used by everyone and everything, who would even know who's RF I was actually using since I want to use them ALL simultaneously?

Would it be like a "class action" suit? Sorry, I didn't realize the chart was so big. I have no way to reduce it! I "un-imaged" it and just made it a link instead... Man - that was BIG!

I would not think of thieving services that some utility actually owns, or that would impact their product purposely..

As was stated earlier, youre attempting to capture a broad range of frequencies, this wont work. even if you do have an antenna that can collect all these frequencies at once, and manage to take only the top half of them, you might get a steady source of power, but it will be sooooooo tiny, it will be useless to power something. Combining all the frequencies does nothing to the amplitude of the wave, unless you have a circuit to line up the frequencies, which will draw much more power than you get from it.

And im pretty sure Tesla never took energy from electromagnetic radiation, he was trying to use the ionosphere as one plate of a capacitor with the earth as the other, any power he pulled out he had to pump up.
Of course, I'm not ware of every project he tried, but there wasn't much on the way of radio back then anyway.

He also worked with 'tuned' resonant transformers operating in the radio freq range, and this was the wireless transmitted energy effect he first demonstrated. There is a famous picture of him standing in front of one the large transformers he made. His work is being re-done today, so to speak, and will appear in the market place more and more... (wireless energy transmission)

They are making "energy servers" that are powering the offices and datacenters of EBay and Google in the Bay area, I understand, coupled with Solar Panels on the roof. (Google)

$10k to convert a single family home - almost totally "off the grid"..

Actually from what little I was able to glean off of bloom (it has come up before) is they store energy as hydrogen, but absolutely use the grid as a storage system too. This is a common theme, very few people actually live off the grid (unless you count the Amish farmers, who are actively using solar). They want to be off the grid during brownouts and peak service hours, where the prices are at their highest.
